Check Why We Accepted ₦70,000 Minimum Wage, Labour Leaders Explain

According to a report, the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have explained why they accepted the new minimum wage of ₦70,000 proposed by the Federal Government.

Speaking after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, NLC President Joe Ajaero and TUC President Festus Osifo said the agreement was reached due to the provision for a review of the minimum wage every three years instead of the previous five-year cycle.

Ajaero stated that the new minimum wage is a compromise, and the review cycle was a key factor in their acceptance. Osifo added that the President has promised to submit the bill to the National Assembly for passage by next week.

The labour leaders also raised other issues, including the need for payment of university workers and addressing the affront by the Commissioner of Police, FCT.
